Weird about me and Elsa, huh!?
I didn’t see that one coming.

PS No more Hitler. Oftenbark now waves a sad farewell to lost lovers. It's so much better.
Thanks for the suggestion.

  1. thats it? I waited so long for this?? I do love me some Dom but this is just not enough papa bear!!!!

Nice how he's trying to be all subtle n cool bout the Elsa situation... deflecting all the stuff said about Marcus... like it never happened :)

  2. Not to sound ungrateful, but two a week is not enough. This is silly.

  3. Here's an idea: Release the emails with the same time difference as the original conversation.

  4. I agree. We are only up to June 1999, how many years are you planning on posting this blog for?

  5. woahw. woah woah.. WAHWWW!!

    blunt. CHECK!
    to the point. CHECK!
notioning that it's high time for Stace to go fly a kite if she don't like it. CHECK.

"Acknowledging a sad farewell to lost lovers." wow. - i think Dom was brilliant in drawing this hint right out from Stacey's "romantic wave to someone as they sail away". Stacey's version is almost like one can expect that someone to just sail back into their lives. And this is what i really love in this - how Dom so boldly points out his interpretation of the scenario with his version (which is very different!) that actually, NO., it's more like a sad farewell to lost lovers. The goodbye's have been said. The lovers have been lost.

It feels like Dom is saying "Welcome to my reality, Stacey. Welcome to the raw seven seas. Where not everything is peachy just because you live in the moment. Where mistakes can not be forgotten, even if they are forgiven. Where consequences must be dealt with, face to face, rather than just after you arrive on shore or stable ground."

There may be no boat coming back, from the storm into which it has been cast into.

  6. They date back to 1999? Technically we could be waiting 10 years for the last email! Stephen, having read the emails do you think that you are going to leave us on a cliffhanger? Or does the last email provide some sense of closure?

  7. With regards to posting these emails at a greater frequency, i think we would immediately lose the community feeling that this blog has offered everyone. Purely because there is so little time in our lives to engage with this as is. It is not really a book to be read.. I mean im sure there are plenty of romance novels out there to go and indulge in.. but it seems this is perhaps more about every readers interpretation, and hearing about it, and learning from the different experiences and insight people on this blog have to offer.

To post more often, i personally think would be a strain on our already busy schedules. In that sense, I think those people who would like posts more often would probably benefit from reading more books.. But anyway, that's just what i'm thinking.

Also, this blog is a fantastic tool for procrastination, and so....

.....im pretty much screwed if Stephen posts more often hahah!

  8. Great analysis, Hiranga, in your first post. I only glossed over the post script, but that's where the meat is in this delivery from Dom.

It's good to be the king.

  9. He is very much letting her know he's sad about what happened, he's sorry it did, but he's moving on since she did. Her subtle attempts at finding out where his head was worked... She now knows what kind of person he is in a relationship. There was no bashing of Elsa as she did to Marcus. There was no prolonged regrets about what could have or should have happened... There was only a very blunt and to the point statement that says I'm surprised that i fell for Elsa as well, so long and thanks for playing the guilt game but I'm gonna see where this pans out... Bravo...
I also agree I would love to see more emails a week because of my general curiosity, but I'm with Hiranga, I like the since of community... we are all people from all over the world and we share this love for this story that has brought us together... Our opinions are shared read and we feel like we belong to something... It's nice. A small internet family. I'd hate to lose that feeling. I feel like our opinions matter and we look often times as forward to reading others comments as we do the emails themselves. So if we are a family, and Stephen, Hiranga, Ipshi, Chris Dixon, and myself, (the guys that stick out as the ones who comment the most... What are our roles? We each have our own stories and bring things to the table... now wouldn't that make for a strange reading?

  10. and yes I realize that was full of errors forgive me it's late here and I just finished a show :-).

  11. =] =] =] =] All I can say is YUSSSSSSSSSSS, DOM hahahaha finally wow like I am so proud hahaha

  12. Ipshi, I know it's a short one and I considered posting Stacey's reply today. But I thought this said it all and felt like a good punctuation point.

  13. Anon (10:21) I'm sorry. I hope it's not frustrating you too much.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anon (11:05) Not sure if this is the same person as Anon 10:21 or not but I'll answer as if different. I've had this suggestion before about releasing the emails at the smae frequency as they were delivered. The problem is sometimes they email ten times in a day and coming up there's quite a long break.

I did consider this, however but finally decided that a regular posting might be more convenient for regular readers.

But please any sugestions will be taken seriously and welcomed.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anon (11:08) hopefully not years. And please stay as long as you like. Drop in, drop out. You'll always be welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hiranga, excellent as always. I think you're right. It was a subtle jab. Using her metaphor to saying something deeper. As the Screwball analysts say - he topped the topper.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anon (11:12) I promise it won't be ten years. And no there's no cliffhanger. It does go into places unexpected - but there are resolves.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hiranga, I think you're reading of the postings is really valid. As I mentioned, I considered more frequency but felt it was too much of a commitment for readers.

I also considered only posting once a week - but I was worried that it might draw out too much. So finally settled on twice.

That being said, I couldn't want for such great criticism "Please Post More!" I hope I'm not being arrogant but I actually take this as a compliment.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Chris Dixon, yes Hiranga's always got good analysis. And you are the King, sir.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Chris, what's your show? Do you want to mention anthing about it? Do you want to post a link. You are very welcome to do so.

I love that you mentioned he didn't put down Elsa. Nice observation.

Also I agree with the community. These comments are the commenters are such a big part of this blog. And I am delighted to check in every day and see a new posting from all of you.

  21. Anon (3:43) I'm proud of him too. And my reading is this breif email for what it's worth is because Dom is busy with Elsa.

  22. @stephen - I get what ur saying, I do but these mails and the subsequent comments r quite a big part of my world u know... i cant believe i hav to wait till Wed to get to the next chapter!

@hiranga - ur comment really brought to the fore what i felt on re-reading the teeny weeny, miniscule (yes it hurts that much stephen.. LOL) mail. while u r mostly busy acting like a 45 yr old instead of the teenager u really are... u r a wise little one &yes u r good to point out that we do (or shud) have lives beyond this forum... LOL & btw that comment about eading more books was HILARIOUS!!

@chris - it is becase of the sense of family that these posts were becomng too personal for me, as Iv talked about earlier. The people here amaze me with their wit, their acceptance, their honesty & their beautiful ability to communicate, more than anyone i think Stephen himself, followed by Hiranga, Chris Dixon and WW (where is she/he?) & now you

  23. I miss that autistic kid. Where are you Nigel Taylor? We miss you and your hard headed focus. Funny guy.

  24. Essex, I miss him too. Though I wonder what his real name is.

  25. I love and hate this post at the same time.

Love for the fact Dom is finally acting like an adult, and hate because it's so short. =b

I'm looking forward to Wednesday's post. Can't wait to see Stacy's reply... if there is one. XD

  26. First Anon (Kimberly)October 18, 2010 at 12:08 AM

    Ha!

Stephen: Yes, I was frustrated, it has subsided and was honestly not enough to stay away. The comment was made on impulse... It was the shock of seeing such a short email after anxiously awaiting the next installment. Dom's response was perfect and is probably where I would have gone wrong had I been the one replying, as I might have written a mouthful.

I admit that I've only just caught up to this point after following for just a few weeks. I love this blog and its story, please continue in any fashion you see fit, not that you need my permission... I will be here.

Hiranga: I agree with your interpretation of this short, blunt and brilliant message. I think you are spot on.

As for the feeling of community here that you have grown to cherish so much, I certainly wasn't trying to attack it. I get that this should be more organic, instead of pushing it or rushing it along. I am admittedly a bit impatient, and should try to comment and marinate on the story along with the rest of you, as it's rare nowadays to find a forum where no one is being ambushed for their opinion.

And regarding your suggestion (read: dig) about reading more books, I think it's something we would all benefit from.

  27. I am just loving this blog. I caught up just over a week ago and have been avidly waiting and devouring the updates since then. Absolutely riviting stuff and I am hooked!!!!!!

  28. Ipshi, sorry missed your latest comment. I think it's great that you answer directly. I really like your comment to Hiranga. He IS such a wonderful wise teenager. What a compliment.

  29. PennyPup, very funny. You made me grin. Yes Dom is acting like an adult but I kinda miss the boyish Dom too. Does that make me crazy?

  30. First Anon (Kimberly) lovely to meet you. I undertand your impulse and took it more so as intended - a desire for more. No offence was taken at all. Indeed the effort that goes into commenting is so greatly appreciated. This blog would be considerably less without the effort of strangers. And for that I am so humbly thankful.

And please feel free to comment or suggest. I would actually like your permission :)

And finally welcome to the comments. Please join the conversation whenever you want. Your thoughts already kick started a discussion. So I'm certain that they will continue to the same.

You'll be a welcomed member of the community, I'm sure.

  32. hahaa noooo im nawt a teenager!!! GRRR Ipshi, pushing my buttons grrrrr this is called post-teenage-angst!! hahaha i'm a few yrs out from the juvenile stage. Okay.. who am i kidding, i'm still fairly rampant. Damn you for raising this topic Ipshi! grrr lol :D

PS. my comment about reading books instead was not intended cynically - just a suggestion. I trust i have not offended anyone. And yeah, this blog is addictive, but as im sure you have all heard patience is a virtue - unfortunately a virtue i have little of lol but anyway, i am learning.

PPS. I wouldn't say im wise IPSHIIIIIII though the view from the shoulders of giants is certainly great and forever enlightening.

-ALL OF YOU PERSONS COMMENTING being the giants of course. :)

  33. and as I posted about the sense of community we get responses that reaffirm my belief in such. Stephen, I do community theater where I'm from. I have a couple shows on You Tube. look up sandmanchris. I would suggest taking a look at "The Boys Next Door" first and foremost. I would love to get comments. I play Norman Bulansky, so you may have to watch a minute or two but you will be able to put a face with a name. Feel free to leave comments on my page. I would love to hear any and all.

  34. Hiranga, you are a teenager at heart. Surely you do teenage things. Share, share - please share!

  35. Chris, I will check it out. Is there a direct site link for people to click on?

And others please check it out too. It would be amazing if this community could spike off to other people's work. Coz it's all about sharing, right?

  36. http://www.youtube.com/user/sandmanchris Feel free to check it out. Thanks to all who comment. My favorite is "The Boys Next Door", just go to oldest videos, it was the first one I posted. (of course youtube only lets you do it in 15 minute segments so it's in parts) Thanks Stephen.

    Thumbs up!

  38. Chris, have checked it out. It looks like fun. Are you the golfing tutor? Nice pants!!
