Dom…so sorry I didn’t take you advice and read the whole email…I’m quite overwhelmed….and need to speak to you in person, really soon…but, man… I also don’t want to leave you hanging…you put it out there…and I need to as well…

So…in simple terms… you've made me feel like a teenager again and I’ve made you a fictional mix tape too.

Coz when you fancy someone you always give a mix tape, don’t you?

Anyway - here’s the listings:

1: Gloria – Patti Smith
2: Candy Says – Velvet Underground
3: Sick and Tired – The Cardigans
4: I didn’t Understand – Elliot Smith
5: Oh well, okay – Elliot Smith
6: Waterloo Sunset – The Kinks
7: Song of the Siren – This Mortal Coil
8: Golden Slumbers – Claudine Longet
9: Day is Done – Nick Drake
10: Witchita Lineman – Glenn Campbell and Michelle Shocked
11: Pearly Dew Drops – Cocteau Twins
12: Wie ein Stern – Frank Schobel
13: Sometimes Always – Hope Sandoval and Jesus and Mary Chain
14: Hong Kong Garden - Siouxsie and the Banshees
15: Cattle and Cane – Go Betweens
16: Sharkey’s Day – Laurie Anderson
17: Date with a Vampire Girl tonight – Screaming Tribesmen
18: On the Radio – Donna Summer

So there you have it. I hope you get the meaning.
Ringing you this evening.

Giddily
Stacey

  11. ok will someone who is good at things actually interpret this mail for me... some of these songs just sound like bitter angry rants at the world that don't really a place in this convo (much like stacey tho i must admit) but can i get a general idea of where she's headed? cos the whole "u make me feel like a teen" and "u give someone a mixtape if u fancy them" makes me believe -- and i dont wanna believe cos i am so sure im gonna b punished for it -- all over again!

  12. i think it's really easy to want to love as a teenager, it gets harder as the years go on. for stacey i think love is a risk that seems easier to avoid than to embrace.
    love the playlist.
    i'd add,
    crazy - the clean

  14. Oh, goodness. So many songs to look through.

I think my anxiousness has diffused because of the "giddily" at the end but I am still at the ready just in case.

I'll try to look it over with my eyes of womanly understanding and do a translation, Ipshi. But I think she's headed in the "yay, I love you, too," direction.

I feel obligated to make a few of song contributions. Longing, sorrow, and a bit of topsy-turvy coming up.

    1. Long Distance by Brandy
    2. Permanent Monday by Jordin Sparks
    3. Don't Speak by No Doubt
    4. Thinking of You by Katy Perry
    5. I'm Not That Girl by Idina Menzel
    6. You Were Mine by the Dixie Chicks
    7. All I Could Do Was Cry by Etta James
    8. Wake Up by Coheed and Cambria
    9. Nothing Hurts Like Love by Daniel Bedingfield
    10. Absolutely Nothing by Lily Allen
    11. Good Enough by Evanescence
    12. It's Ok by Cee Lo Green

  16. Translation of Stacey's Playlist
Note: This is just what I get from it. Don't mind me.

    1. I really, really like you.
    2. I'm a severely messed up individual but I'm trying not to be that person anymore.
    3. I'm tired of wandering and being alone. I didn't realize it before but now I do.
    4. I liked you and I wanted to get away from you because I don't feel like I'm deserving of it.
    5. I could feel that there was something going on between us but I just wanted you to say it. I wasn't sure...
    6. Being with you, talking to you, makes me feel so much better than I did before.
    7. I love you.
    8. You make me feel all dreamy inside.
    9. Most days I regret the things I've done; I've messed up so often.
    10. I'm still that weird person but being with you makes me different. I need that; I want that.
    11. [I have no idea what this could possibly mean. I'm getting a sense that there might be an across the pond language barrier with this one]
    12. [Yay for language barriers]
    13. I'm not going to say I'm sorry. Don't make me say I'm sorry. Fine, you can go. No, come back. I'm sorry. Hah, I knew you'd be back.
    14. The rest of the world is so strange.
    15. It didn't used to be like this. I think I'm remembering it differently.
    16. But in the midst of all of this insanity, I do know that I like you.
    17. I'm crazy as all get out but you've got me now.
    18. [Pretty much a summary of the entire journey]

  18. My goodness. I've been in Miami for the past week so I haven't had time to check BoredOlives...

Just caught up and it seems that I've missed quite an eventful week or two. It's always good to have Dom and Stacey back in my life. I was freaking out as I read Dom's previously posted beautifully crafted e-mail that Stacey was going to somehow fuck this up, but things appear to be on the right track for now. Fingers crossed!

  19. Arghh what a crap responder I am. So sorry. And after all everyone has done. This is truly amazing. Thank you all. Such hard thinking and lovely and wow responses. So many good mix tapes. So confronting, funny and lovely.

You all make me feel damn fine. Thank you again.

  20. It makes me feel very young when the only artists I have heard of from Stacey's mix tape are The Kinks and The Velvet Underground...

Not sure if I'm happy about this development or not. I would have been if it'd happened before Stacey started being a complete bitch to Dom though. Unless maybe that was all an act to force Dom out of his shell and confess his love for her, because she must have known, and just needed him to admit it

  21. I think Happy Ending by Mika works perfectly here.
